Villas, by nature, have somewhat of a homey feel to them. This may because a lot of people grew up in villas or when we think home we have an inclination of imagining a “stereotypical” home: garden, fireplace, rooms, wooden floors etc. However, there is also a way of making your apartment have that vibe to them.
Wood
As you may have noticed in the introduction we have mentioned wood or wooden floors to be one of the elements to make a house, a home. Although having wooden floors may be a little tricky for apartments, having other types of wood is an option. So how could you incorporate wooden decorations in your house? One of the options is having a wooden dining or coffee tables, or even wooden TV stands, or maybe even have a small shelf for books or additional decorations. A wooden sofa is also an option, but it would be uncomfortable if a person was to spend a night on the sofa.
Plants
This is where apartments may get boring, not all apartments have room for a small garden. Whether or not you’re a gardening person is another question, having plants in every room of your house helps your house have a feel homey. You can have those plants in pots, vases or even have them in plates, examples can be dried rose petals, it would be much better if these plants are organic rather than the fake plants.
Color
The color of your house is key in determining whether the house is a home or just a house/living space or gives the vibe of being somewhere other than a living space area. Hence choosing a lighter color for the walls and the couches, curtains are certain to give it a push of hominess. So what colors are considered to be homey? According to the Martha Stewarts website, there are six options: Creamy White, Mustard Yellow, Moody Green, Grey (different shades), Rich Red, Tangerine, and Soft Blue.
Amongst your decorations, you might also consider thinking of adding some rugs or pillows on the sofa or even some more decorations that might be appealing to your eye (paintings and sculptures, being an example). The key to giving a homey vibe, finally, is to create a space where you’re most comfortable. Hence, ultimately, it all depends on you and your tastes.
